BOKO: A peculiar situation has come to light at the Boko Block Development Office under Boko-Chaygaon constituency. According to locals, officials and employees of the office fail to arrive before 12 noon, leaving villagers waiting for hours to get their work done.
Residents allege that every day they are forced to wait until midday for basic services. When contacted, Boko Block Development Officer Tapasi Devnath stated that she could not attend the office as she had to be present at meetings in the Kamrup Deputy Commissioner's office.
However, questions have been raised by conscious citizens about why, even in the digital era, officials must physically attend meetings at the DC office instead of using video or audio conferencing. Villagers complain that this practice wastes both time and money, especially for those travelling from distant villages.
Locals further allege that, citing meetings as an excuse, some officials deliberately avoid public duties. On the day in question, none of the accountants, senior assistants, assistants, or computer operators was present before noon. Only clerks and chowkidars were available, who confirmed that the usual reporting time is around 10 am.
According to office records, the Boko Block has two block development officers, four computer operators, two engineers, and a total of 25 staff members. Yet, none were present before 12 noon.
Responding to the complaints, Boko-Chaygaon Sub-Divisional Officer Priyanshu Bharadwaj and Kamrup District Development Officer Siddhartha Goswami assured that an inquiry would be conducted and necessary action taken.
