KOKRAJHAR: The activists of All-Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) centrally observed its 58th foundation day at the premises of UN Academy, Kokrajhar.
As part of the programme, the president of ABSU Dipen Boro hoisted the organizational flag while Director of UN Academy Krishna Gopal Basumatary paid floral tribute to Bodofa UN Brahma and the Principal of Kokrajhar Government College Dr Dimacha Dwibrang Mashahary offered floral tribute to Bodoland movement martyrs. Registrar of Bodoland University Dr. Subung Basumatary, HoD of Bodo, Bodoland University Dr. Indira Boro, Principal of Kokrajhar Girls College Dr. Adaram Basumatary, retired Professor of Kokrajhar Govt College Gobinda Boro, president of Bodo Women’s Writer Association and retired Professor of Kokrajhar Govt College Dr. Anjali Basumatary, Principal of Kokrajhar Science College Dr. RN Singh, ex-general secretary of the ABSU Gautam Mashahary, ex-education secretary and Professor of Kokrajhar Govt College Dr. Kamal Bodosa and president of Kokrajhar district BSS Bijel Kr Basumatary released balloons and pigeons for peace.
In his speech, president of ABSU Dipen Boro said the ABSU was founded in the year 1967 by late Kankeswar Narzary and late Baneswar Basumatary at Tribal Rest House in Kokrajhar who led the journey of student union as the founder president and secretary. ABSU had been working for the renaissance and reformation of the Bodos, over 5000 Bodos sacrificed their lives for the Bodoland statehood movement. In 1968 at Borobazar session in Bijni of ABSU started to work with its agendas for the protection and development of the society, he said adding that the Bodos reached this position due to relentless dedications of the leaders of ABSU and Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) with many challenges. “We are committed to work for the strong foundation of the Bodos with vision for years to come to fulfill the dreams of Bodofa UN Brahma,” he said adding that the workers of ABSU will work dedicatedly in their respective positions.
An open discussion on the subject, “ABSU and the vision for nation building” was also held with ABSU president Dipen Boro in the chair. The meeting was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary and addressed by MP Joyanta Basumatary and noted journalist and Chancellor of Nagaland University Samudra Gupta Kashyap while BSS president Dr Surath Narzary addressed as the chief guest. Speaker of BTC Katiram Boro and other dignitaries attended the meeting.
