Dibrugarh: The process of transferring seven associates of Amritpal Singh, who were detained under the National Security Act (NSA) at Dibrugarh Central Jail, has reached its final stage with the release of the remaining three detainees today.
Earlier, Gurmeet Singh, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, Daljit Singh Kalsi, and Basant Singh were released from Dibrugarh Central Jail and immediately re-arrested by Punjab Police in connection with a case registered at Ajnala Police Station, Punjab. They were later presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Dibrugarh and placed under transit remand on March 17 and 18 for their transfer to Punjab.
Today, the remaining three detainees, Kulwant Singh, Harjeet Singh, and Gurinder Pal Singh, have also been released as their NSA-detention period has expired. Following their release, Punjab Police is expected to present them before the judicial court in Dibrugarh and seek transit remand, as was done with the other four detainees.
With all seven detainees now released, the legal transfer process to Punjab is in its final phase. The remaining three detainees, including Amritpal Singh, are also likely to be transferred by April 2025. The move comes as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab Government decided not to reinvoke the NSA against the seven Waris Punjab De members, whose two-year detention period expired today.
