TEZPUR: A ministerial-level meeting was carried out today between the representatives of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the Seijusa region on the border of the two states on Friday.
In a bid to bring a complete end to the border issues between the northeastern states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the latest round of talks are being carried out over the last few days. As a part of the ongoing discussion process, ministers as well as high-ranking officials from both states are taking part in the ongoing discussion process.
While the minister of Parliamentary Affairs for Assam Pijush Hazarika and the Minister of Forest for Arunachal Pradesh Mama Natung participated in the talks for their respective states. The group visited several areas that have been inhibited by people from both states.
According to reports, a part of the land belonging to the Pakke Tiger Reserve which falls on the Northern side of the Bordikrai River in Seijosa which falls under the jurisdiction of Assam has been occupied by Arunachal Pradesh. The delegates agreed upon handing over this part of the land to Arunachal Pradesh and in return get an equal-sized plot of land from Arunachal Pradesh in some other bordering region of the state.
Apart from the officials of different departments of the state, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika and MLA of Pakke-Kessang, Biyuram Waghe also attended the meeting. And this decision represents a landmark decision towards the solution of the border problems between the two states. This decision will however cause some minor changes to the political map of the Northeastern part of the country.
Earlier, the Minister of Border Protection and Development for the Government of Assam, Atul Bora visited Roing on Monday to discuss the problems pertaining to the differences at the border between the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
