SILCHAR: The three-day delegate meet of the Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Asom, would commence from January 21 here with a series of programmes. Dignitaries like Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, Fishery and Animal Husbandry Minister Krishnendu Paul, and Barak Valley Development Department Minister Kaushik Rai would attend the three-day functions, informed Prashanta Chakrabarty, General Secretary of the Sabha. Former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha would be honoured with ‘Asom Bandhab’ award while Shikha Bhattacharjee, the wife of late Prof Bijit Kumar Bhattacharjee, the editor of decades old little magazine ‘Sahitya’ would be felicitated.
Chakrabarty said that the purpose of the conference being organised here in Silchar was to build up a bridge between two valleys. The state government had provided an assistance of Rs 5 lakh, informed Chakrabarty. He said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma desired well-knit relations between Barak and Brahmaputra valleys.
“Unfortunately there are some quarters with divisive designs trying to spread misconception between the valleys, and fortunately there are some platforms like Bangla Sahitya Sabha which play relentlessly to bridge the gap between Barak and Brahmaputra valleys,” Chakrabarty said.
The three day meet would see symposium, felicitations, poets meet, and cultural functions.
