Assam: BIGA extends support to parentless boy with high ambitions

In a goodwill gesture, the BIGA extended support to a parentless boy with high ambition for his admission and purchase of books.

KOKRAJHAR: In a goodwill gesture, the Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA) extended support to a parentless boy with high ambition for his admission and purchase of books. Hailing from a remote village-Gwjwnpuri under Karigaon Police Outpost, Swithwsa Narzary has been left alone at home for the past six years. He is the bread earner himself and works in other households, continuing his study as well. He is also a boxer.

Narzary, who passed the matriculation examination 2025 from Gaurang High School securing 59.5 percent was not in a position to get admission in HS-1st year due to lack of money. After his inability to get admission, the BIGA representatives, led by General Secretary Guno Shankar Wary along with Assistant General Secretary A Basumatary and Treasurer J Brahma, went to his house on Sunday evening and met the boy and extended financial support for his admission and purchase of books. The BIGA representatives inspired him to continue both his education and sports for carrier.

Narrating his tale, Swithwsa Narzary said that he had been left alone for the past six years. He said that his mother eloped with another man when he was studying in class-V, six years ago. His mother got married with another man and now lives somewhere in Nagaon and his father died of frustration after her elopement. He said that his youngest brother was taken away by his mother while the middle brother works somewhere as a wage labourer. Apart from earning and studying, he clinched a boxing gold medal in Khomlainai in the 14th Bodoland Indigenous Games, 2025 held at Medaghat in Baksa district.

Narzary said that he will not drop his studies and sports despite hardships. Replying to queries, he said that he had no relatives nearby and lived alone, looking for means of livelihood. He further said that the activists of the local anchalik ABSU came to him and assured to arrange free admission in a college.
