BOKAKHAT: The Bokakhat Regional Chutia Students’ Union organized Birangana Sati Sadhani Day on April 21 at the premises of Bijoy Namghar in Satolagaon, Bokakhat. In celebration of the day, the first annual dhol drumming competition was also held.
The event began with the hoisting of the flag by Manas Pratim Gogoi, President of the Bokakhat Regional Chutia Students’ Union, in a ceremony inaugurated by Montu Saikia, President of the Bokakhat Subdivision Chutia Students’ Union. A ceremonial lamp was lit before the portrait of Sati Sadhani by Lachit Kakati, Secretary of the Bokakhat Subdivision Chutia Students’ Union.
At 10 AM, drawing competitions were held in two categories. Following this, Pratap Chandra Neog, President of the All Assam Deori Chutia Sahitya Sabha, and the Chief Deori priest, conducted the ‘Deo Kuwer Shalita Logowa’ ritual. At 12 PM, the dhol drumming competition was inaugurated by the ‘Naba Surya Dholiya Dal,’ led by renowned dhol player Deven Gogoi.
During the programme, the ‘Nirav Lok Kristi Sadhak’ (Silent Contributor to Folk Culture) awards were presented to dhol artists Dhaneswar Saikia, Shaliya Bora, Surya Dutta, Jiten Saikia, Kalai Dutta, and Deven Gogoi for their outstanding contributions to preserving traditional folk music.
On the occasion of Sati Sadhani Day, a commemorative book titled ‘Kalimati’ was launched by Jitu Sharma Rajkhowa, President of the All Assam Journalists’ Association, along with Pratap Neog and Chandra Gogoi, honorary members of the Chutia Development Council, among other dignitaries.
The award distribution ceremony was graced by Suvarna Saikia Bordoloi, Secretary of the All Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Chandraprabha Saikia from the Chutia Jati Mahila Sammilani, and other prominent individuals and citizens.
