Haflong: The Birth anniversary of Joy Bhadra Hagjer was observed in Dima Hasao with due respect and love to the legendary leader of Dima Hasao on Wednesday.
At Umrangso All Assam Gorkha Students Union, Umrongso Regional Committee in collaboration with District Committee observed Birth Anniversary of J.B . HAGJER. Joy Bhadra Hagjer was born on April 2, 1914, in Nanadisa near Haflong.
He was a prominent Indian politician from the indigenous Dimasa community and held various portfolios in the Assam Legislative Assembly including education. Notably, he served as the Minister of Veterinary, Jails, and Minority Affairs until his passing on July 16, 1973, in Shillong.
Hagjer was also the founder and first president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, established on November 16, 1952, aiming to promote and develop the Bodo language and literature. His contributions are commemorated through institutions named in his honour, such as the J.B. Hagjer Degree College, established in 1995 in Umrongso, Dima Hasao district, Assam.
