Assam: Bodoland University signs MoU to institute prestigious awards for PG students

Bodoland University (BU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institute two prestigious awards aimed at recognizing and encouraging academic excellence among postgraduate students.

KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland University (BU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institute two prestigious awards aimed at recognizing and encouraging academic excellence among postgraduate students. The initiative honours the legacies of late Holiram Brahma and late Rajendra Lal Narzary, celebrated figures who made significant contributions to education and society.

The two awards instituted are the Holiram Brahma Award for best postgraduate in Science & Technology, named after the late Holiram Brahma (1928–1971), the first engineer from the Bodo community of greater Assam; this award will be conferred annually to the top postgraduate student from the Faculty of Science & Technology. Eligible departments include Botany, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science & Technology, Geography, Mathematical Science, Physics, and Zoology. The second award is the Rajendra Lal Narzary Inspirational Award in the Department of Bodo, dedicated to the late Rajendra Lal Narzary (1918–1996), a stalwart in preserving and advancing Bodo culture, language, and literature. This award will be given annually to the best postgraduate student from the Department of Bodo.

Each award comprises a cash prize of Rs 40,000, a gold-plated medal or trophy, a certificate or citation, and a traditional aronai, symbolizing the rich cultural heritage of the Bodo community.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Bodo Sahitya Sabha President Dr. Surath Narzary, Dr. Subung Basumatary, Registrar of Bodoland University, and family members of the honourees, such as Dr. Ganesh Brahma and Girish Chandra Brahma, sons of late Holiram Brahma, and Dr. Jaya Narzary, daughter of late Rajendra Lal Narzary.
