BOKAKHAT: A wave of mourning swept across the region following the recovery of a young artiste’s lifeless body near the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park, located at Durgapur village in Kaziranga. According to reports, Jitumoni Saikia (22 years), a resident of Old Blog Mahimabari under Kamalabari Satra in Titabar, had been working as a dance artiste at the park since the last tourist season.
The artiste, who lived in a rented house near the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park, was found lying dead on the veranda of an old house nearby on Sunday. Kohora police, on being informed by locals, arrived at the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Golaghat for post-mortem before handing it over to the family.
Officials and staff of the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of their fellow colleague and extended condolences to his family. The artiste, who had been tirelessly performing traditional Assamese dance and showcasing local culture from morning to night before domestic and international tourists visiting Kaziranga National Park, was an integral part of the team. His sudden demise left the entire staff devastated.
As a mark of respect and mourning, the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park remained closed on Monday for the peace of the departed soul. The cause of the artist’s death remains unknown, although he was reportedly seen enjoying with friends late into the night before the incident.
