DIBRUGARH: A tragic road accident on Bogibeel Bridge, the longest railroad bridge in India, shocked and saddened Dibrugarh while the nation celebrated the 79th Independence Day with pride and enthusiasm.
The incident occurred when a head-on collision between a Bolero and a motorcycle near pillar number 3 led to the Bolero overturning on the bridge. The biker was seriously injured and was soon rushed to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), where he was pronounced dead later. The deceased has not been identified yet.
Additionally, two passengers of the Bolero sustained serious injuries and have been shifted to AMCH. As a result of the collision, a tense atmosphere was created among the locals and marred the day's celebrations. What was meant to be a joyous occasion turned into a tragic reminder of the unpredictability of life, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Similarly, a devastating accident earlier in March at National Highway 8 in Assam's Sribhumi district resulted in the death of a bus driver and left more than 15 passengers critically injured. The driver, identified as Hanif Choudhury, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a resident of the Katamoni area within the Patharkandi constituency of Sribhumi.
The tragic accident happened in the area of Petelnagar in Suprakandi, around 7 kilometres from Sribhumi city. According to eyewitness accounts, the front compartments of both the passenger bus and the container vehicle were badly smashed in the impact.
