Assam: Bokakhat branch Xahitya Xabha formed

A special meeting at GRASS in Bokakhat led to the unanimous formation of the ‘Bokakhat Branch Xahitya Xabha’ to promote literary and cultural development.

BOKAKHAT: A special meeting was held today at Seuj Bhawan, the office of the voluntary organization GRASS in Bokakhat, with the presence of more than fifty notable individuals of the town. The programme began with a musical performance by renowned singer Kakoli Goswami. The meeting was presided over by Bonti Bora, President of the Golaghat District Xahitya Xabha. The objective of the meeting was elaborated by distinguished poet, author, and literary award recipient Minoti Dale.

In her address, Dale emphasized the importance of establishing a new branch of the Axam Xahitya Xabha in Bokakhat to promote literary, cultural, and intellectual upliftment for people of all walks of life in the area. The attendees unanimously agreed to form the new branch under the name ‘Bokakhat Branch Xahitya Xabha.’ The formation was officially approved by Bonti Bora, Vice-President Muhiram Loing, and Secretary Dulal Das of the Golaghat District Xahitya Xabha.

A full-fledged committee was formed with Minoti Dale (recipient of the Government of Assam’s Literary Award and a member of the Axam Xahitya Xabha’s Minor Magazine Promotion Committee) as President, Dhaniram Kurmi and Phanidhar Hazarika as vice-presidents, Badan Duwara, Executive Editor of the newspaper ‘Raijor Khobor,’ as Secretary, Siddheswar Deka and Ankur Barthakur as joint secretaries, Indreshwar Bora as Treasurer, Dilip Bora as Magazine Editor, Bijoy Sharma as Cultural Secretary, and Monikanta Kutum as Office Secretary. The newly-formed Bokakhat Branch Xahitya Xabha has already enrolled over 50 lifetime members within the same day and is expected to attain the status of a ‘Golden Branch’ within a week.

Among the notable attendees were senior citizen Syed Anichur Rahman, literary pensioner Nijora Barthakur, President of the Bokakhat Subdivision Journalists Association and senior journalist Bubul Dutta., President of the Golaghat District Poets’ Conference Amar Sharma, poets and writers Amrit Kumar Nath, Kunjalata Das, Nipul Das, Lakhyana Das, Pradeep Khaound, and Arfur Rahman.

District President Bonti Bora emphasized the importance of forming branches based on Panchayat divisions. Dulal Das, Secretary of the Golaghat District Xahitya Xabha, and Vice-President Muhiram Loing briefed the audience on the Xabha’s objectives and constitutional directives. Copies of the Xabha’s constitution were handed over to the newly-elected President and Secretary, and the meeting concluded with the national anthem.
