NAGAON: A book titled "Bhogeswari Phukanani: Life and Times," penned by Bibha Phukan, a senior advocate of the Nagaon Bar Association, was ceremonially released at the Nagaon Sahitya Sabha Bhavan here today. The book has been written on the life of Bhogeswari Phukanani, a freedom fighter who played a crucial role in India's struggle for independence.
The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including Dr. Rajen Saikia, a noted historian, who delivered the keynote address and also ceremonially released the book.
Dr. Saikia highlighted the significance of India's freedom movement and the role played by women like Bhogeswari Phukanani, emphasizing that the freedom movement was a modern-day epic that involved people from all walks of life. He praised the role of Mahatma Gandhi in leading the movement and making it a mass-based struggle.
The event was also attended by several family members of Bhogeswari Phukanani, including Hiranmoyee Phukan, who delivered the welcome address.
Other notable attendees included retired administrative officer Chandramohan Kakati, Jatin Chandra Bora and Jatin Hazarika, litterateur Laksheswar Sarma, educationist Dr. Kamal Chandra Saikia, and journalists Kanak Hazarika and Binu Laskar Thakuria.
The event was chaired by the retired principal of Nowgong College and mentored by Bhaskar Bodo, grandson of Lt. Bhogeswari Phukanani.
