KOKRAJHAR: To ensure equal justice to the people of BTC, the Government of BTR has initiated a draft proposal for creating a new department, ‘Community Welfare Department’ (CWD), with immediate effect.
The decision to create the Community Welfare Department was made in the Executive Council Meeting of BTC held today which was chaired by CEM Pramod Boro. The draft proposal for creation of the new administrative department was a vision of the CEM.
The draft proposal opined that the BTR had endured periods of violence, often resulting in the breakdown of societal norms and the stalling of developmental efforts. These episodes of unrest, rooted in deep-seated grievances, have exacerbated feelings of insecurity and mistrust among the communities. The normal growth of society has been repeatedly disrupted, leaving scars that continue to influence the region’s socio-political dynamics.
The draft proposal said that India, with its rich cultural and social diversity, was a nation that thrives on the strength and unity of its communities. Encouraging and empowering communities is not only vital for preserving this diversity but also essential for fostering progress and harmony within the country. Communities form the foundation of India’s identity.
CEM Boro said that from traditional practices to modern collaborations, communities embody the shared histories, values and aspirations of their members and that their collective spirit contributes to the vibrancy and dynamism of Indian society, making them indispensable to the nation’s progress. He also said that communities were not just cultural entities but engines of social and economic development. Empowering them through education, resources, and opportunities enhances their ability to contribute to national progress, he said. Boro further added that a strong community fostered social cohesion, reduced inequalities, and created an environment where every citizen can achieve their full potential.
Meanwhile, EM Gautam Das while talking to newsmen at BTC Secretariat today said that the CWD would be a Nodal Department for promotion, formulation and implementation of policies and programmes for welfare and all round development of the 26 diverse communities of BTR. He said that the department will also be responsible for protection, preservation of the art, culture, language, community values, and heritage of the communities.
