Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has secured approval from the Union government to set up a world-class sports academy in Udalguri district, BTC Chief Pramod Boro announced. He described the initiative as a major step in transforming Bodoland from a conflict-affected region into a thriving sports hub.

The proposed ₹187 crore facility will include a football stadium, cricket stadium, and an athletics track, aimed at grooming grassroots talent and preparing them for international competitions.

Boro said the project is the result of long-term planning and follows the Assam government’s earlier sanction of ₹110 crore for a football stadium in Kokrajhar, further strengthening the Bodoland Territorial Region’s sports infrastructure.

Reflecting on the area’s progress, the BTC chief said that since the signing of the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord, the region has seen significant development in both sports and other sectors, helping reshape Bodoland’s image and opportunities for its youth.
