Guwahati: In a major step toward building a smarter and more efficient city, the Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved an Aerial LiDAR Survey for Guwahati.
The project will cover 328 square kilometers of the city, capturing detailed digital data of roads, drains, buildings, transformers, and other infrastructure. The aim is to create a real-time, GIS-based urban intelligence system that will help the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) improve delivery of citizen services.
Officials say the move will boost urban planning, reduce waterlogging, and make civic services more citizen-centric. The digital mapping will help authorities make data-driven decisions and plan infrastructure better in the rapidly growing city.
