GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has expanded as four BJP MLAs took their oath as ministers today at a function held at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati.
The new ministers are Prasanta Phookan, a four-time MLA from Dibrugarh, Kaushik Rai who represents Lakhipur, Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, and Rupesh Gowala from Doomdooma. The induction comes at the backdrop of Sanjoy Kishan's resignation from the Council of Ministers earlier this week.
Significantly, this expansion reflects regional representation, with Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul hailing from Barak Valley, and Prasanta Phookan and Rupesh Gowala representing constituencies in Upper Assam.
Krishnendu Paul thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for this opportunity and praised his leadership. "We are dedicated to working under the chief minister who ensured balanced development across Assam's regions and communities," Krishnendu Paul said while addressing the media.
The Assam CM confirmed about the cabinet expansion in a post on X where he wished the incoming ministers.
"Thrilled to share that the following colleagues will be sworn in as ministers in our cabinet on December 7 at 12 PM: Prasanta Phookan, Kaushik Rai, Krishnendu Paul, and Rupesh Goala. All the best to all of them!", CM Sarma wrote in his X post.
This cabinet reshuffle is expected to focus more on development and regional representation across the state.
