SILCHAR: Cachar district secured top honours at the prestigious World Toilet Day Awards 2025, organized by the Government of Assam. The district emerged victorious in multiple categories including the first position in the Best IHHL (Individual Household Latrine) Painting category, a recognition that celebrates the district’s innovative approach to sanitation awareness. This initiative transformed ordinary sanitation spaces into vibrant canvases, with artistic representations that not only beautified the environment but also played a crucial role in promoting hygiene consciousness among residents.

The district was recognized for the Best Painted CMSC & IHHL, a tribute to its efforts in creatively enhancing the appeal of both Community Managed Sanitation Complexes (CMSC) and Individual Household Latrines (IHHL). Another feather in its cap came with the award for the Highest Percentage of Pending IHHL Applications Resolved, a testament to the district administration’s efficiency in ensuring swift access to sanitation facilities for households in need. Furthermore, Cachar’s remarkable feat, in restoring the most non-functional Community Sanitation Complexes (CSCs) to fully operational, underscored its dedication to reviving crucial public sanitation infrastructure.

A jubilant Mridul Yadav, the District Commissioner, said, “This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our people. Every stakeholder, from local authorities to individual households, has played a vital role in this journey.”
