SILCHAR: A 25-year-old youth was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by the Special Court (POCSO) of Cachar for the abduction and rape of a minor girl. The convicted person, Sanjul Hussain Laskar, a resident of Kachudaram in Dholai, abducted the 16-year-old girl from her home while the family members were sleeping on November 24, 2023.
Sanjul then held her captive at a place in Sonai and repeatedly raped her. Even Sanjul, a married person, forced the minor girl to marry him. After a long 1 month and 21 days, the Kachudaram police rescued the girl and arrested Sanjul.
Finally, the police filed the charge sheet, and following the procedural trial, Justice Narayan Kuri of the Special Court sentenced Laskar to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Further, he was sentenced to 7 years for kidnapping the minor girl.
