Assam: Cachar Police Seize Rs 1 Crore Worth of Drugs, One Arrested

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that a person has been apprehended in connection with the recovery of drugs valued at Rs 1 crore in the Cachar region of Assam.

SILCHAR: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that a person has been apprehended in connection with the recovery of drugs valued at Rs 1 crore in the Cachar region of Assam.

It was also further revealed by the Chief Minister that the drugs were found in a vehicle that was entering Assam from a neighbouring state.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, "Drugs worth Rs 1 crore recovered by @cacharpolice. In a source-based operation carried out at Digharkhal Toll Gate, a vehicle coming from a neighbouring state was intercepted."

He stated that 8,640 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate and two kilogrammes of ganja were found in the vehicle, and that one person was taken into custody in connection with the seizures.

Earlier this month, Tinsukia Police successfully disrupted a drug smuggling operation, arresting two smugglers and a local peddler. Acting on intelligence, a team led by Additional SP (Crime) Nishant Saurabh intercepted Bitu Gohain and Natey Ekka near New Tinsukia Railway Station after they arrived on the Avadh Assam Express from Dimapur.

Four plastic bags of heroin were seized from their possession. In a follow-up operation at Dohutia Chuk, local peddler Biki Bora was also arrested with banned substances. The accused were charged under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, with further investigations underway.
