KOKRAJHAR: While Christmas and other seasonal celebrations are taking place, Kokrajhar residents are observed to be helpless when searching for cash in ATMs.
Though India is heading towards complete cashless transactions yet small notes are very essential in day to day needs for the people who are economically not sound enough. The SBI has the highest number of ATMs in Kokrajhar town but on most of the days, these ATMs remain either idle or without cash. Since a couple of days back most of the SBI ATMs have dried up. Consumers have encountered inactive ATMs that constantly display the phrases "no cash available" and "cannot dispense cash," indicating the management and public concern of the bank branch, particularly the SBI in Kokrajhar.
According to an SBI bank officer who spoke to The Sentinel, private companies have been handling ATM cash upkeep. He informed that the cash replenishment in the ATMs became so poor after its operation was given to private operatives as the bank branch also cannot force them. The lack of cash in the ATMs in Kokrajhar town becomes a matter of concern for the common citizens.
