DIPHU: The 33rd annual conference of the Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA), one of the biggest Karbi literary organizations, concluded on Monday at Langpher Karbi Jutang Aklam, which is 65 km from the district headquarters. The four-day event included various sessions to celebrate Karbi culture and literature.
On the last day of the open session, Tuliram Ronghang, CEM, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, announced Rs 1 crore outlay from the KAAC budget to sponsor the KLA conferences in the coming years. It is almost three times more than the earlier allocated amount of Rs 50 lakhs. Ronghang also declared that the Karbi language would be recognized as the official language within the jurisdiction of the KAAC.
Drawing inspiration from his recent visits to Japan and South Korea, where he observed a strong cultural pride in native languages, Ronghang urged the Karbi community to embrace their mother tongue. He emphasized the importance of speaking and writing in Karbi, stating, “If the Japanese and Koreans love their mother tongue, why not the Karbis?”
Additionally, the conference honored noted writer Lunse Timung with the Karbi Lammet Anong’eh award for 2025. The 34th annual conference in 2026 was confirmed to take place at Bhoksong, West Karbi Anglong. Open session was held under the chairmanship of KLA President Kamsing Hanse, presided over by MP Amarsing Tisso and past members of KLA.
