JORHAT: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given important updates on the much-delayed Jorhat-Majuli bridge project, revealing that the process to hire a new contractor is nearing completion. A crucial Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) meeting on February 28, 2025, has been planned to consider the Revised Cost Estimate of the project.
CM Sarma underlined the government's commitment to accelerating this crucial infrastructure project. "We are progressing rapidly on restarting work on the Jorhat-Majuli bridge. With a new contractor in the offing, the EFC meeting will address the Revised Cost Estimate," he said. The 6,812.5-meter-long (Package II) bridge on NH-715K is intended to improve connectivity between Jorhat and Majuli, the world's largest river island.
The EFC meeting, to be presided over by the Secretary, Road Transport and Highways, will be held at 10:00 AM on 28 Feb. The EFC Memo, circulated on January 12, 2025, will be placed before the officials and stakeholders through video conferencing.
The construction of the Jorhat-Majuli Bridge has been a matter of public interest over the years with the aim of enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth in the region. Effective completion of the project by the government will bring much-needed relief to commuters and enterprises that rely on ferry transport, paving the way for better infrastructure in the state in the long run.
