UDALGURI: A child was rescued from Arunachal Pradesh after being allegedly sold by their maternal uncle in Assam's Udalguri district. The culprit, identified as Gyan Bahadur Bhugal, allegedly took advantage of the child's helpless situation after the death of the father and the physical limitations of the mother and he sold the child for Rs. 50,000.

After getting information about the incident, the Udalguri Child Helpline responded promptly, working with local police to rescue the child from Arunachal Pradesh. The child was recovered safely and handed over to the Shishu Kalyan Samiti on Thursday, keeping them safe and secure.

This case is indicative of a larger problem in Udalguri district, which has witnessed many cases of child trafficking, child marriage and other offenses against children. In the last one year, the Child Helpline has seen a shocking 142 cases of child-related crimes in the region.

District child protection unit officials are working hard to tackle these problems, but there are still challenges to it. Experts say the high rate of child trafficking in the area is due to poverty and ignorance. To address these issues, a campaign against human trafficking has been initiated in Udalguri to create awareness and prevent such incidents from happening again.

The combined efforts of the local organizations and authorities are imperative in solving these recurring problems and safeguarding vulnerable children in the community.
