NAGAON: A youth from S. Khaklari village in Kaliabor in Assam's Nagaon district fell into the Brahmaputra River while having a picnic at Rudrapada and was immediately rescued on December 30.

The youth lost his footing and fell into the river while on a day trip with other people. Fortunately, Assam Police and volunteers Suheil Ahmed and Abhijit Sharma from the Sonitpur Civil Defence squad acted promptly.

With incredible courage and foresight, the two plunged into the river right away and pulled the young person to safety. After being saved, the Tezpur River Police handed the person over to his guardians. Sonitpur Police have acknowledged the brave efforts of the Civil Defence volunteers in averting a possible tragedy and commended them for their prompt and brave acts.

Meanwhile, locals in Dhubri were shocked when a mummified, severely decomposed body was discovered in a char area near Chala Kura. The body surfaced due to the Brahmaputra River's unusually low water levels, which exposed parts of the riverbed usually submerged during the monsoon.

The remains, likely exposed for weeks or months, were in an advanced state of decomposition, making identification difficult. Locals found the body while going about their usual activities. The retreating waters have revealed the typically inaccessible char area.

Local authorities have not yet determined the cause of death and are seeking information to help identify the deceased.
