SIVASAGAR: In a significant turn of event, tension flared up in Gaurisagar ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections as a violent clash broke out between BJP and Raijor Dal workers.
The incident took place in the premises of the Gaurisagar Block Development Office during the distribution of cheques under the Assam Darshan Scheme.
According to eyewitnesses, an argument between supporters of the two parties quickly escalated into a physical altercation, leading to chaos in the area. Local authorities intervened to control the situation and prevent further violence.
With panchayat election dates expected to be announced soon, political tensions in the region appear to be rising. Security measures have been tightened to prevent any further disturbances.
The Assam State Election Commission on Wednesday announced the poll schedule for Panchayat Election 2025 in the state, which will be held in two phases on May 2 and 7, 2025. Counting of ballots from both phases of polling will be done on May 11.
The poll will be held in 27 districts in the state, except for 6th schedule districts, which do not have a Panchayati Raj system. This was stated by the State Election Commissioner, Alok Kumar, on Wednesday afternoon.
