Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on a press meet held today/Friday announced that families covered under the Orunodoi scheme will now get a ₹250 subsidy on LPG cylinders. The amount will be credited directly to their bank accounts after each purchase made through the Orunodoi card. The Chief Minister said the new phase of the scheme, titled Orunodoi 3.0, will be launched on September 17, which also marks the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“This subsidy will help lakhs of households across Assam to manage the cost of LPG. It is a step towards making cooking fuel more affordable for poor and middle-class families,” CM Sarma said.

He added that the state government is working to strengthen the Orunodoi scheme further so that more families can benefit. Orunodoi is one of the flagship welfare schemes of the Assam government and currently provides monthly financial assistance to economically weaker families, especially women.

Under the revised scheme, eligible beneficiaries will continue to receive their monthly assistance, along with the newly introduced LPG subsidy. The ₹250 will be directly transferred to their bank accounts after purchasing the cylinder.

CM Sarma also said the government is working to include more deserving families in the upcoming version of the scheme and that full transparency will be maintained.

The official launch of Orunodoi 3.0 is expected to take place at a state-wide event on September 17.
