GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday met Indian badminton star PV Sindhu and her husband Venkata Datta Sal. The Chief Minister extended his wishes to the couple, congratulating Sindhu for the excellent service to badminton and wishing her good luck for her future matches, according to the Chief Minister's Office.
Sindhu, currently ranked 12th in the world, was disappointed in the early elimination from the Indonesia Masters tournament after losing to 32nd ranked Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam in the first round. It lasted for 37 minutes, with scores at 22-20 and 21-12.
Despite this recent disaster, Sindhu had a magnificent achievement earlier this year when she finally claimed her first BWF World Tour title in over two years at the Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament held in Lucknow. Sindhu won it comfortably with a straight-game victory against Wu Luo Yu of China with 21-14 and 21-16.
During her illustrious career, Sindhu has bagged five medals in the BWF World Championships-a feat no other female player has achieved, except Chinese Zhang Ning. She became an Olympic legend in Rio 2016 by clinching a silver medal and won a bronze in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals. The success of Sindhu inspires many young athletes all over the world.
