Assam CM Himanta Biswa Visits Residence Of Nilmani Phookan & Kamalendu Deb Krori

Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the residences of Nilmani Phookan and Kamalendu Deb Krori to congratulate them on their recent achievements

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma paid a visit to the Jnanpith awardee poet Nilmani Phookan and former principal of Cotton College Kamalendu Deb Krori at their residence on 16 December.

The Assam CM congratulated Poet Nilmani Phookan who was recently conferred with the country's highest literary award, the Jnanpith award, for his outstanding contribution to literature at his residence in Guwahati.

He became the third literary figure from the state to have been selected for this coveted award. Mamoni Raisom Goswami and Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya were the other two.

He also took to his official Twitter handle to laud the stalwart poet.

The CM also visited the residence of the former principal of Cotton College Shri Kamalendu Deb Krori. The former principal also happened to be an eminent physicist and the Assam Government recently conferred him with the Sourav Award for his contributions in academics & scientific research.

Kamalendu Deb Krori pioneered research on general relativity in the North Eastern region of India and guided 16 scholars for their Ph.D degrees. He has co-authored almost 150 peer-reviewed research papers in International Journals.

Himanta Biswa Sarma was a former student of the Cotton College and he also served as the General Secretary of the college.
