SRIBHUMI: Security along the India-Bangladesh border is facing heightened scrutiny amid allegations of repeated incursions by Bangladeshi miscreants in Assam's Sribhumi district. Reports indicate that Hindu-majority areas, especially in Brahman Shasan and Nayagram, have increasingly become targets of criminal activities.
In a recent incident, eight cows were stolen from the homes of three residents overnight. However, local residents quickly took action and managed to recover the stolen cattle. Efforts to apprehend the thieves were thwarted when the miscreants brandished sharp weapons and threatened the locals.
Despite the presence of border security forces in the region, local residents are voicing concerns about ongoing incursions by foreign criminals. “How are these individuals able to infiltrate so easily?” questioned one worried resident.
Many are calling for answers and urging stronger measures to protect the community, especially in view of the recurring threats and criminal activities. These incidents have sparked serious concerns about border security and the necessity for increased vigilance in the region.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, unidentified miscreants on Wednesday planted an explosive at the entrance of ICICI Bank’s Singjamei branch in the Imphal West district of Manipur.
The bank's security personnel recovered the explosive, a hand grenade, at around 9 am. Upon receiving the information, a team from the Singjamei police station and the bomb detection and disposal squad promptly rushed to the scene.
The bank near National Highway 102 restricted vehicle and pedestrian movement for approximately 30 minutes. The bomb disposal squad removed the hand grenade at around 10 am. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for planting the explosive so far.
