GUWAHATI: Assam Congress MP Rakibul Hussain has filed an FIR at Dhubri Sadar Police Station from New Delhi after he received several death threats on social media. The complaint, which was filed on Monday, has accused Ansar Ali, son of Mostofa Ali, a resident of Sonakhuli village in Dhubri district.

Terming the threats, Hussain complained that the government was harboring miscreants responsible for past attacks on him. "The assailant is free in the open sky on anticipatory bail. Now, again, I have been issued a death threat from Dhubri," he said.

Hussain apprised the Lok Sabha Speaker of the threats and lodged the FIR officially through email from Delhi to Dhubri Sadar Police Station. As per him, the threat was first given on January 4, 2025, during a Facebook Live, where the accused reportedly posted, "You will not be spared in Dhubri; we will shoot you, kill you, and leave your body on the road for dogs to eat."

On 16th March 2025, Ali is said to have made another threat, stating, "Last time you managed to escape, but this time you will be killed directly." In another statement, the accused is said to have written, "You will be attacked once more. This time we will kill you. BJP has given us the go-ahead to kill you. This time you will die."

Hussain had previously survived an attack in February 2025 at Natun Bazar in Rupahihat on his way to a Congress workers' meeting in Gunabari. It was reported that a group of people, with their faces covered with black cloth, waved black flags at him before attacking him. The miscreants also attacked his bodyguard during the attack.

After the attack, Assam Police named 10 people who were reportedly involved in the attack on the Congress MP in Nagaon on February 20. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma subsequently posted details of the accused on his official X handle, promising legal action against them.

Hussain has urged Assam Police to take swift legal action against Ali and investigate the possibility of a larger conspiracy behind these threats. He emphasized the need for stronger security measures and accountability to prevent such incidents in the future.
