Assam: Debate competition organized at Dhubri Lions Club auditorium

A debate competition was organized among the students on ‘Mobile Phone: A Boon or Curse’ by Dr Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee on his 24 th death anniversary here at the Dhubri Lions Club auditorium on Saturday.

DHUBRI: A debate competition was organized among the students on ‘Mobile Phone: A Boon or Curse’ by Dr Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee on his 24 th death anniversary here at the Dhubri Lions Club auditorium on Saturday.

A good number of students of Dhubri and Gauripur took part in the debate competition and spoke at a length on the uses and abuses of mobile phone. As an appointed speaker and experienced paediatrician, Dr Tapas Mazumder in his hour-long deliberation pointed out various mental and health complication due to addiction of mobile phone.

“Mobile phone is undoubtedly a blessing of science in the present day world and we can’t think of life without it but it will lead us nowhere if we get addicted to it. So I appeal to students to be extra concious while using it and never use it beyond your academic need,” Dr. Mazumdar warned. The winners were awarded with a trophy, citation, a pair of badminton set, shuttle and educational materials while all the participants were also were given gifts along with seedlings. Earlier, floral tribute was offered at the portrait of Dr Pannalal Oswal followed by memorial session presided over by working-president of the memorial committee, advocate JM Surana, while the objective of the programme was explained by the secretary of committee, Bimal Oswal and entire programme was anchored by senior member of the committee, Dhruba Mahato. Thereafter, seedlings were planted in the office premises of Dhubri Simanta Chetana Manch and nearly 50 dustbins were distributed among the street vendors selling food items in Dhubri town.
