Guwahati: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta has been directed by the State Police Accountability Commission (SPAC) to launch departmental proceedings against Upendra Chandra Bordoloi, an ASI of Lahorighat in Morigaon.
This order comes after the SPAC took cognizance of the fact that the ASI was acussed of physically torturing a minor in the month of March this year.
Earlier, an email dated March 29, 2022 was received from one Faruk Ahmed on March 30, 2022, wherein, it was alleged that the ASI Upendra Chandra Bordoloi physically tortured a minor in a ruthless manner.
Thereafter, the police conducted an investigation into Lahorighat PS case no. 151/2022, for which a chargesheet had been submitted, and they found the allegations levelled against the ASI to be correct.
It is to be noted that the police personnel was placed under immediate suspension after his brutal act of violence came to light.
A video capturing the incident had surfaced and went viral. The police officer can be seen bashing a 14 year-old boy with a stick just for allegedly stealing biscuits in the video.
What is more distressing is the fact that despite the boy screaming and persistently begging the official to not beat him, the police officer simply ignored his agony and kept on hitting the minor boy for a long time.
As per reports, the teenage boy was apparently caught red-handed while stealing biscuits from a vehicle parked inside the police station.
Meanwhile, Morigaon Superintendent of Police Arpana Natarajan earlier stated that the Laharighat Police had seized a vehicle carrying illegal liquor hidden inside biscuit packets and placed it on its premises.
The Morigaon SP informed that the teenager had attempted to steal a packet of biscuits from the confiscated vehicle.
She went on to inform that the boy has been contacted following the incident and he has been provided with the required counselling for the trauma he had to go through.
