GUWAHATI: In a pivotal development, Assam's Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, is set to convene a significant meeting with the Superintendents of Police (SPs) from five districts in the state's Tinsukia region. The scheduled meeting, taking place on August 9, holds paramount importance as it aims to deliberate on enhancing security arrangements in the five eastern Assam districts ahead of the impending Independence Day.

Reports indicate that the primary agenda of the meeting will revolve around assessing the current state of law and order within these districts and addressing the looming threats posed by militancy. Notably, recent efforts by Assam's police force led to the thwarting of an attempt by the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) to recruit fresh members into its ranks, a move believed to be connected to Independence Day activities.

A senior official from the Assam police had disclosed intelligence inputs regarding ULFA-I's alleged plans to orchestrate bomb blasts across seven distinct locations. However, ULFA-I vehemently rejected these claims, labeling them as baseless. In a statement, the militant outfit openly dismissed the assertion made by Tinsukia ASP Bibhas Das, which implied their intention to carry out multiple bomb blasts prior to the Independence Day celebrations.

The upcoming meeting signifies a concerted effort by Assam's law enforcement to address pressing security concerns and mitigate potential threats to public safety. As the DGP and district SPs collaboratively examine the existing law and order situation in these eastern districts, the state is focusing its resources on preemptive measures to ensure a safe and peaceful Independence Day observance.

In this delicate landscape where security and stability are paramount, Assam's law enforcement agencies remain steadfast in their commitment to upholding public safety. The discourse set to take place at the meeting will play a crucial role in shaping the security strategies and responses for the region, as they strive to create an environment conducive to celebrating the nation's freedom without apprehension.
