The Catholic Church at Khalihamari, one of the oldest churches of the northeast, constructed in 1931, has been exquisitely decorated with colourful flickering lights, stars and illuminated Christmas trees. The various churches in the town- Catholic Church at Khalihamari, Baptist Church at Jail Road, Church of Jesus Christ at Kadamoni, Presbyterian Church of India at Paltan Bazar, Church of North India at South Khalihamari- have been buzzing with activities. A strikingly elegant tableau of Jesus Christ adorns the inside of the cathedral along with other prettily decorated cribs symbolizing the birth of Jesus.

People of all faith congregate here on Christmas,” said Gabriel Kujur, Assistant Parish priest. He said, “Over 3,000 Christians are expected to gather for the midnight mass on Tuesday.
