DIBRUGARH: The much-awaited second edition of the Dibrugarh University Literature Festival, popularly known as DU Litfest, began on Wednesday, drawing writers and literary enthusiasts from all over the world.
This four-day event, a joint initiative of the Foundation for Culture, Arts & Literature (FOCAL) and Dibrugarh University, is a major cultural congregation in Assam. More than 25 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe are represented.
About 120 prominent writers, novelists, poets, essayists, and critics will participate in the discussions and share their literary experiences during the event. The inaugural ceremony at the Rang Ghar auditorium was attended by 84-year-old explorer-writer Tete-Michel Kpomassie from Togo, who enthralled the audience with stories of his eight-year journey to Greenland, as narrated in his book, “An African in Greenland”.
Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jatin Hazarika thanked FOCAL for organizing the festival, which also coincides with the diamond jubilee celebrations at the university and is an important part of the National Education Policy 2022, with a focus on arts and culture.
This event features more than 50 literary sessions, which include one very remarkable discussion titled "It's Time for Africa: Perspectives on the Continent, People, and Literature." The ceremony ended the first day with the cultural performance by African students, symbolizing the African theme of this festival. The event seems to promise intellectual exchange as well as cross-cultural dialogue among diverse literary voices.
