MARGHERITA: In a significant operation on Saturday evening, a four-wheeler carrying diesel, bearing registration number AS-23DC-1662, was seized from Bomgara under the Lekhapani forest range office of the Digboi Forest Division, following a tip-off.

Parasmita Neog, the Forest Range Officer of Lekhapani, led a patrol team that successfully seized the vehicle along with two drivers, 200 litres of diesel and the vehicle owner. The owner of the vehicle has been identified as Kaushal Singh of Ledo and the two arrested drivers have been identified as Rahul Singpho and Anil Prasad.

Some miscreants have not yet abandoned their greed of illegal coal mining despite the fact that illegal open-cast coal mining is currently halted in Margherita Co-District of Assam.

As a result, dumpers, JCBs, Poclains, excavators, and Max pickup vehicles carrying diesel used to operate such machinery are spotted from time to time.

It is also worth mentioning that some unidentified miscreants targeted the Lekhapani forest reserve, Tipong forest reserve, Saleki forest reserve, Paharpur forest reserve, and Namdang forest reserve over the past two months, resulting in occurences where the situation almost erupted into a raging fire on two occasions.

The Lekhapani forest range officer and all the forest staff are now working with valour to protect this forest area.
