DOOMDOOMA: Diki Sonowal, the singer from Assam who had sung numbers in several languages was felicitated by the local people on Sunday.
The locals of the region welcomed her from the gate of the Dangori Soru Dhadum Bathao Temple on National Highway Number 115. The welcome party comprised men and women including Gayans and Bayans who came for the felicitation and accompanied her home.
Diki Sonowal was named the best singer of Dibrugarh University. She also performed 50 songs in 50 different languages for which her name was entered in the India Book of Records as well as the Asia Book of Records.
The Tinsukia district unit of the All Assam Sonowal Kochari Students Association and the Dangori local unit organised this felicitation event which saw the participation of over 500 people.
Previously, under the auspices of Doomdooma Regional Students’ Union (DRSU), 187 students who passed the HSLC and HS examinations, in 2023 in Doomdooma region were awarded certificates of appreciation and a memento at a felicitation ceremony held at the Kallol auditorium of Doomdooma College on Monday. The meeting, which was presided over by Prakash Dutta, former Headmaster, of Rupai High School, was addressed by Mriganka Bora, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Doomdooma Forest Division, and a former student of Doomdooma College, Prashanta Dutta, assistant secretary, central committee, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Anil Gogoi.
The meeting was also attended by Principal, Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College, Dr Amarjit Saikia, AASU central organizing secretary Rana Sonar and executive member Nikhil Koch, Assistant Professors, Doomdooma College, Deepak Ranjan Baruah and Dwijendra Nath Sarmah, among others.
Before that, the Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA), Tinsukia District Committee felicitated around 300 students belonging to the tea tribes’ community of the district who passed various examinations this year at a programme held at the same venue on Sunday. The programme was chaired by the president, ATTSA, Tinsukia District Committee, Jagat Nayak and was attended by State Labour and Tea Tribe Welfare Minister Sanjay Kishan, and Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala.
