Assam: Dima Hasao Celebrates 56th District Day with Grand Procession and Honors

The Dima Hasao District Administration celebrated District Day, marking the 56th anniversary of the district's formation. The event took place in front of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council.

HAFLONG: The Dima Hasao District Administration celebrated District Day on February 2nd, marking the 56th anniversary of the district's formation. The event took place in front of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council and was organized to honor the district's history.

On this day in 1970, the government created North Cachar Hills District, which is now known as Dima Hasao. The district was renamed Dima Hasao on March 30, 2010.

The celebration began with a colorful procession through Haflong city, featuring participants from various tribes and communities, government departments, the police, paramilitary forces, NCC cadets, school children, and the Assam Rifles pipe band.

The procession, which started at the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council premises, was officially inaugurated by the Chairman of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Mohet Hojai, in the presence of other key officials such as Executive Member Donpainon Thoasen, MAC Rupali Langthasa i/c Higher Education, Haflong Municipality Board Chairperson Ripa Hojai, the District Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.

During the ceremony, the district administration honored Padma Shri Joynacharan Bathari for his contributions to the district. The event highlighted the significance of Dima Hasao as an autonomous district under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

The celebrations reflected the pride and unity of the people of Dima Hasao, and the event was attended by various officials and representatives from the district’s governing bodies.
