SIVASAGAR: Acting on a reliable input, Sivasagar police apprehended a drug peddler in the Baniabari area on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Taposh Sarkar (27), son of Ajay Sarkar, a resident of Palakhani Gaon under Sivasagar Police Station.
During a search operation, the police found two plastic containers with a substance suspected to be heroin, weighing 33.96 grams (including the containers). The substance has been sent for forensic testing to confirm what it is and how pure it is.
The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal drug trafficking in the region. Authorities believe that the accused may be linked to a larger drug distribution network operating across district lines. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, in a major crackdown against drug trafficking, the Central Guwahati Police Department, led by the Paltanbazar Police Station, conducted a well-coordinated raid in the Suhagpur area and arrested a notorious drug dealer, Md. Sheikh, who hails from Kachari Basti. Sheikh, known for his involvement in multiple illegal activities related to narcotics, was apprehended after a detailed investigation into his operations.
During the raid, the police took 10 vials with 13 grams of suspected heroin, which they think is connected to Sheikh’s drug business. They also found Rs. 1,020 in cash, believed to be from his illegal drug sales.
