NAGAON: In a major breakthrough, the Nagaon police have seized a large consignment of drugs worth over Rs 3 crores on Friday from a vehicle kept under police custody inside the campus Nagaon Sadar police station. During an anti-drug operation at Anand Nagar in Nagaon town a drug peddler was arrested.

Sources claimed that the police had arrested a drug peddler, Anzar Hussain, on December 6, but were unable to seize the drugs as he had set them on fire inside his toilet. However, the police later seized the vehicle, bearing registration number AS 01 AX2621, from Hussain’s residence.

The police took Hussain into custody on Thursday and conducted a search of his vehicle in the presence of a magistrate. During the search, police found 44 packets of drugs hidden in a secret chamber in the vehicle, sources said.

The police have confirmed that the seized drugs are worth over Rs 3 crores in the market. Further investigation is underway in this regard.
