DIBRUGARH: An elderly shopkeeper is in critical condition at Assam Medical College and Hospital after being stabbed by masked assailants in Lahowal, Dibrugarh, on Thursday evening.
The victim, identified as Keshlata Hazarika, was attacked while returning home after closing her shop. The assailants ambushed her, inflicted severe stab wounds, and fled with her money bag.
The attack took place in a typically quiet neighborhood, leaving the local community in shock. The investigation into the attack is ongoing, and police are hopeful that the incident was captured on CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, the previous day, a girl was stabbed by a miscreant in broad daylight in Guwahati's Last Gate area and she succumbed to her injuries at GMCH today.
According to witnesses, the victim, who sustained severe injuries to her neck, abdomen, and hand, was attacked by a man identified as Bhupen Das.
The woman, identified as Mousumi Gogoi, a resident of Dibrugarh, worked for an NGO in Guwahati. She was waiting for a Rapido ride when the attack took place. According to reports, the attacker arrived in a Swift Dzire car and stabbed her.
Likewise, in another spine-chilling incident, a 27-year-old woman from Assam was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight at Perumbavoor in Kerala's Ernakulam district by a man from the same state.
The man accused of murdering the 27-year-old woman later tried to end his own life by stabbing himself and consuming poison. He was receiving medical treatment at a government medical hospital in Kochi and was to be arrested upon discharge.
