Assam: Employees under NPS stage protest for OPS in Nagaon

Along with the rest of the state, the government employees of the Nagaon district under the NPS staged a strike in demand of scrapping of the NPS and the reintroduction of the OPS.

NAGAON: Along with the rest of the state, the government employees of the district under the National Pension System (NPS) staged a strike in demand of scrapping of the NPS and the reintroduction of the old pension scheme today here.

The strike, which was supported by all government employees under the NPS, brought normal life to a standstill in the district. The employees staged a dharna (sit-in protest) in front of the Nagaon District Commissioner’s Office, shouting various slogans. The strike was observed in all government offices, including the Nagaon Sadar, Kamrup, Dhing, Rupahi, Samaguri, Kaliabor, and Raha circles. Employees from various government departments, including colleges and universities, participated in the strike.

The All Assam Government NPS Employees’ Association had called for the statewide strike to press for their demands. The association has been demanding the scrapping of the NPS, which was introduced in 2004, and the reintroduction of the old pension scheme.
