SIVASAGAR: In a concerning incident, Dipankar Dutta, a Field Inspection Engineer from Intertek India Pvt. Ltd., was allegedly manhandled and assaulted by contractor Bibhuti Phukan on Saturday at the office premises of Executive Engineer, PHE, Sivasagar Division. The altercation allegedly stemmed from a dispute over an inspection report prepared by Dutta.
According to Intertek India Pvt. Ltd., Dipankar Dutta had recently inspected the Chetia Gaon PWSS and compiled an inspection report reflecting the actual site conditions. The findings of the report resulted in a lower financial valuation than the amount initially allotted for the project. This discrepancy reportedly led to an argument between Dutta and Phukan, as the contractor insisted on certification of the full financial amount sanctioned, despite the alleged non-execution of the complete work on site.
The situation escalated when Phukan, dissatisfied with the report, resorted to physical aggression, causing injuries to Dutta’s neck and hand. Furthermore, it is alleged that Dutta had been receiving threatening and harassing phone calls from the contractor in the days leading up to the incident, pressuring him to comply with unethical demands.
Intertek India Pvt. Ltd. has expressed serious concern over the incident, stating that such acts of violence create an unsafe and hostile work environment. The company fears that such occurrences could negatively impact the morale, productivity, and overall well-being of their employees working within the division.
Intertek India Pvt. Ltd. has formally urged the concerned authorities to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from recurring. They have also requested a thorough investigation into the matter and strict disciplinary measures against the contractor involved. The company emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, expecting it to be treated with the highest priority to ensure a safe and ethical working environment for all personnel involved in the Jal Jeevan Mission project.
