BOKAKHAT: In Bishnupur, Numaligarh, a gas pipeline leak today led to a massive fire that burned fiercely for about an hour. Amid a tense and fearful atmosphere, panic spread among the local residents. The fire broke out from a gas pipeline running from Golaghat. Two fire brigade units were deployed in an effort to extinguish the blaze.

The incident occurred in the evening near the bypass along National Highway 39 at Bishnupur, Numaligarh. The fire flared up violently, and as the flames gradually spread from one spot to another, the environment became increasingly alarming. Although fire engines from Bokakhat arrived at the scene and tried to douse the fire, they were initially unsuccessful. Another fire engine from the Numaligarh Refinery also reached the spot and eventually, the fire was brought under control.

However, even now, the local people remain fearful, as the gas leak and fire occurred dangerously close to the Numaligarh Refinery. It is suspected by local residents that the fire was caused by a leak in the Assam Gas Company’s underground gas pipeline running beneath the area.
