GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, a Sal tree plantation within the Balipara Reserved Forest was destroyed by a devastating fire that occurred on the night of March 25. A team from the forest department quickly arrived at the scene after receiving the information and took immediate action to douse the blaze. By acting swiftly, they were able to contain the fire and prevent it from escalating into a larger environmental disaster.

An investigation has been launched to identify those responsible for the act. In order to prevent further incidents that threaten the region's biodiversity, forest officials remain on high alert. This incident is being taken seriously by the authorities, who are working to prevent such events in the future.

Meanwhile, the Assam forest team caught two smugglers red-handed while they were cutting valuable Sal trees at Mouman Reserve Forest under the Singra Forest Range Office in Kamrup West Division earlier in January.

The forest team was led by Ranger Bhagab Hazarika, who said that they had information about the illegal activities and therefore they ambushed at that place. Two smugglers, identified as Moon Rabha (35 years) from Mouman village and Bimal Rabha (25 years) from Bhogdabari village in Boko, were arrested.
