Guwahati: With the Assam floods starting to recede in most of the districts in the state, it has come to light that the Brahmaputra (at Neamatighat in Jorhat) and the Jia Bharali (at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur) are still flowing above the danger level.

Although the flood situation in Assam continues to show marked improvement, 1,648 animals in Upper Assam's Dhemaji district are still feeling the impact of this year's first spate of floods.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ADSMA), 620 of these are large animals, 440 are small animals, and 588 are poultry.

The report also stated that as many as 1,520 persons in 15 villages in Dhemaji district are still reeling due to the impact of the deluge, and 720 hectares of crop area has been submerged underneath floodwaters.

In Udalguri district, there has been a breach of a canal embankment and damage of an inlet structure at the D2B1M canal in Gelagaon village.

It is pertinent to mention here that the pre-monsoon floods which swept across Assam showed ominous signs, with a severe spell of rain lashing several parts of the state for days on end. At least 10 persons were killed due to the deluge.
