HOJAI: Four individuals were arrested by the Hojai Police in connection with the suspected abduction and murder of a man from Hojai, Assam, in the Kheroni region of Karbi Anglong.
Reports confirm that the deceased was Vijay Kumar Chouhan, a resident of Hojai, Assam. The police have arrested four individuals in connection with the crime, and they have admitted to the murder. The accused have been named as Shyamal Bathori, Krishna Rai alias Rocky, Montu Lal Khercha, and Robin Langthasa.
The police stated that they had recovered the murder weapon and the victim's motorcycle from the crime scene. Police officials revealed that the victim was abducted on December 5 and held captive in Kheroni, Karbi Anglong. The accused demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, but they murdered Chauhan the day after the abduction.
The police were later able to track down the accused and recover the body on Tuesday. The police also suggested that the murder may have been premeditated, as Bathori knew the victim previously. The fourth accused, Robin Langthasa, had offered shelter to Krishna Rai, one of the primary suspects. The accused have been remanded for further investigation.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, A man in Udalguri, Assam, was sentenced to lifetime imprisonment for a murder he committed in 2017.
The district and session judge, N. Senabaya Deori, pronounced the verdict convicting Lurkho Munda to harsh imprisonment for life and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence under Section 302 of the IPC.
The convict allegedly hacked one Illiam Kujur to death with a wood plank. The convict and the deceased were both friends.
