TANGLA: The Indian Army’s Gajraj corps, under the aegis of the Eastern Command, successfully conducted a Mega Ex-Servicemen (ESM) Rally at Tamulpur on Sunday. The event, held under the motto “Bhootpurv Sainik, Abhootpurv Yogdaan, Aapko Saadar Pranaam,” witnessed attendance of over 4,800 ex-servicemen (ESM) and their family members from various districts of Lower Assam. Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Gajraj Corps, expressed gratitude to the veterans for their service and sacrifices. He reiterated the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and assured continued support.

The event also witnessed the felicitation of Veer Naris, Veer Matas, and war veterans, acknowledging their contributions. In a significant welfare initiative, motorized scooters and wheelchairs were presented to disabled ex-servicemen and their dependents. The rally served as a one-stop platform to address pension, medical assistance, welfare schemes, and employment concerns. Various help desks and service stalls were set up, including those by the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA), Record Offices, and Zila Sainik Boards, leading to the on-the-spot resolution of 453 pension and emolument-related issues for veterans and Veer Naris.

The rally also featured medical camps manned by specialist doctors, ensuring essential healthcare services. A CSD outlet was set up to facilitate easy access to subsidized goods, while Aadhaar updating counters by UIDAI and financial consultation desks by leading banks were also available for attendees. The event also featured a job mela featuring MSMEs and district administration stalls providing employment opportunities for ex-servicemen and their dependents. Adding to the grandeur of the event, a cultural showcase featuring performances such as Bihu Dance, Khukri Drill, Gatka, Unarmed Combat (UAC) Demonstration, and a Pipe Band Display highlighted the rich traditions of the state and the Indian Army’s valour.
