Assam Gaurav Awardee Binong Teron Given Hero’s Welcome In Manja Upon Return

The state government selected Teron for the prestigious award for his outstanding community service, providing free education to underprivileged students in the district.

DIPHU: The locals at Manja town on Friday warmly welcomed and felicitated Binong Teron, a recipient of the "Assam Gaurav Award"—the Assam Civilian Award—upon returning home to Manja from Guwahati after receiving the award. Along with other recipients, Binong Teron received the award from Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on April 3.

The state government selected Teron for the prestigious award for his outstanding community service, providing free education to underprivileged students in the district. Offering free education to over 50 students, Teron, a native of Sonsing Terang village, Manja, Karbi Anglong, has established a coaching center in Manja.

Teron, since 2022, has been visiting over 200 schools and conducting sessions in remote villages with a mission to provide free career counseling to underprivileged children. To help children pursue their aspirations with confidence, he also meets with parents, offering guidance and support.

The Government of Assam, on April 3, presented different civilian awards, including the Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurabh, and Assam Gaurav Awards, to 20 individuals and three groups (NGOs and SHGs) in recognition of their outstanding and exemplary contributions in their respective fields, like defense, academics, science and technology, art and culture, sports, handicrafts, social work, agriculture and allied activities, entrepreneurship, ecotourism, wildlife conservation, etc.
